"Following your advice has kept me paddling at 82 with others 15-20 years younger."
- Dave Fairbrook
You tense up when waves appear
Your shoulders often feel strained after paddling, especially in wind.
You've noticed kayaking getting harder on your body as you age.
You started using the Greenland paddle but now you find you can't go as fast as you did with the Euro paddle
You would like to roll with ease but your roll feels hard, and inconsistent
You are not alone...
The waves were getting bigger, and steeper.
I found myself slapping my euro paddle against the water, fighting to stay upright.
Sure, these emergency braces were working for now.
But deep down, I knew I was one slow reaction away from capsizing in 10-degree water.
At the time, I had no idea that I was about to discover a secret.
A secret that would not only eliminate that kind of dread forever... but also transform my entire relationship with the water.
I learned that kayaking isn't about mastering dozens of disconnected techniques.
It's about a way of moving.
And 2 Principles make all the difference.
First is using your whole body to generate power, much like a martial arts master.
The second, using that quick power to firm up the water on command.
You choose when the water is firm.
And when I started applying this way of moving I started going faster than anyone I knew.
I had no more discomfort paddling in waves, could edge for a turn and there was no way I would capsize if I edged too far.
I could easily do the balance brace, do layback and forward rolls.
And with way more ease than even the advanced paddlers with 20 plus years of experience.
And this all happened in a few months.
I could not understand why nobody was teaching this.
Over 18 years of teaching, I've developed and refined a system that breaks down these ancient principles into clear, learnable steps.
A system that transforms how you move with your kayak.
Since learning this, I've been in far bigger waves than those on the crossing where I was afraid for my life.
But the experience is much different. There is no sense that I might go over.
It's more like a relaxing walk in the park.
And that's what I want for you as well.
"My paddling was forced. Now it's much easier. And I have a lot more confidence in waves.
The location is absolutely great"
- Devi Pasad
Instead of learning dozens of disconnected skills that take years to perfect...
We show you how two fundamental principles make every kayaking skill emerge naturally.
This means you'll quickly surpass your current skill level, even if you've been paddling for decades.
We start by activating your natural muscle memory.
This happens through our unique "Mindful Muscle Memory" lessons.
This creates the foundation that makes every kayaking skill quick and easy to master.
Most notice a huge difference in the very first session.
Our clients often master essential skills within days of learning these principles
You'll quickly surpass your current skill level by adding efficiency to what you already know
Our clients find paddling becomes easier on their bodies. Often eliminating pain they thought was just part of aging
You'll discover how to paddle in wind without an uncomfortable strain on your shoulders
Will Transform Your Kayaking In 5 Days
Start your transformation at home with guided video lessons where you'll learn how to:
Move your body exactly as you will in the kayak
Develop efficient core movement
Build healthy muscle memory
Generate power from your core
Move with natural alignment
Release unnecessary tension
Each day on the water builds your skills through structured sessions where you'll:
Apply the new principles in morning practice
Build confidence in the afternoon exploration
Fine tune your balance brace and rolling in focused sessions
"The way I learned to edge was by creating tension. What I learned here is to edge without tension.
It makes so much sense and now I can hold that edge without tiring so quickly."
- Dave Lapointe
"I'm now able to combine different parts of my body. Before I would wear out one part, and then change to another.
Now it's way more integrated and relaxed, and there is no more shoulder pain"
- Mary Maclean
"I absolutely feel more comfortable and confident in my kayak. I feel I have the skills I need to build on to progress even further with some practice."
- Karen Thibodeau
"The biggest change in my paddle perspective was the notion of "firming the paddle" in the water. Never before had I heard power or pressure applied to the blade explained in this manner. And yet after practice and time on the water, I quickly felt a dramatic difference in efficiency and speed."
- Jennifer Stanton
"When I first got my new kayak and a Greenland paddle, I felt pretty overwhelmed trying to figure out how to use the paddle properly, especially with the sportier kayak.
I gained a solid foundation for my skills and a boost in confidence on the water. I'm now a much more efficient paddler and feel way more comfortable handling dynamic waters and tricky weather conditions. Paulo's instructions also made rolling a lot easier."
- Asmin Chen
"I impressed the two Guides, with my ability to (unintentionally) set the pace, whilst never breaking a sweat!
As well, my "bracing" confused the Guides, because I, mostly, didn't brace, in the normal sense, since, having either Greenland blade in the water, gave me enough purchase, to adjust my balance, before things got out of hand."
- Bruce B.
"My confidence in conditions and ability to maneuver my kayak is vastly improved. Your demonstrations and explanations are clear and concise and yet disclose some techniques that I have not seen anywhere else"
- Ryc Williamson

It's that simple.
If you don't get the results you're looking for, it means we need to adjust something in how we're teaching you - and I take full responsibility for that.
That's why I'm committed to continuing to work with you through our membership site and the Alchemy Reference Library until you achieve the transformation you came for.
No matter how long it takes, I'll be there to support your journey.
You need basic kayaking experience - able to paddle forward and turn your kayak. This isn't about learning basic strokes; it's about transforming how you move with your kayak, regardless of your current skill level.
Absolutely. Most of our participants are experienced paddlers who discover a completely new way of moving with their kayak. You'll likely find that these principles transform skills you've been practicing for years, making them more efficient and enjoyable.
The Mindful Muscle Memory approach is specifically designed to protect your joints. Many participants find their shoulder pain disappears as they learn to move efficiently. However, consult your healthcare provider if you have specific concerns.
While you can bring your own, we have Greenland paddles available for use during the retreat. Many participants find they never want to go back to their Euro paddle after experiencing the difference.
The focus is on efficient movement, not strength or endurance. Morning sessions are gentle, and on-water sessions are paced to ensure learning, not exhaustion. We adapt to individual needs and energy levels.
Our location offers various protected areas for learning. We choose appropriate conditions for each skill level and progression. Plus, you'll learn how to make rough conditions feel manageable.
The retreat is designed for individual progression, not group performance. Everyone learns at their own pace, and the small group size ensures you get the attention you need.
The MMM exercises are designed to make learning natural and progressive. If something isn't clicking, we'll find a different approach that works for you. Remember, you'll have access to the video library before the retreat to start preparing.
You'll have lifetime access to the Alchemy Reference Library, including detailed videos and audio coaching sessions. Plus, ongoing support through our membership site where you can ask questions and get guidance.
The water temperature will likely be around 10 celsius or 50 fahrenheit.

You can arrange to stay in a glamping tent, and will need to arrange this yourself. Here's where you can get more information about it. https://www.portbrowning.ca/glamping
Port Browning is located on Pender Island, a short ferry ride from Victoria. You can drive on the ferry with all your gear.
Port Browning has a marina, so if you want to boat there you can arrange moorage with them.

You're here because you sense there's more to kayaking than what you've experienced so far.
Perhaps you're feeling the strain of inefficient movements, or maybe you're concerned about how long you can keep paddling as you age.
You might even be wondering if that grace and confidence you see in other paddlers will ever be within your reach.
Right now, you have a choice.
You can continue with your current approach - working harder than necessary, feeling uncertain in challenging conditions, and possibly watching your kayaking adventures become more limited as years go by.
Or you can join us at the Alchemy Retreat and discover how different kayaking can feel when you move the way nature intended. Imagine experiencing the same water conditions but feeling completely different in them - confident, capable, and truly at one with your kayak.
Remember, last year's retreat sold out in just 19 minutes. With only 12 spots available, this opportunity won't last long.
The question isn't whether these principles work - they've been proven over generations. The question is: are you ready to experience them for yourself?
